About

Heather Schuck

As a Birmingham native, I began my clinical work supporting children and families within the adoption and foster care community. I provided crisis counseling and pre- and post-adoption support, walking alongside families as they navigated complex and often overwhelming challenges. I later served as a family therapist offering individual and family therapy for adoptive and foster care families, working as part of an interdisciplinary team at The Adoption and Foster Care Clinic.

Over time, my practice evolved to focus primarily on adults with histories of trauma, relational disruptions, and experiences of adoption, foster care, or multiple transitions. These experiences often shape how we relate to ourselves and others, and they deserve thoughtful, compassionate care.

My approach to therapy is attachment-based and client-centered. I specialize in working with attachment wounds, trauma-related concerns, and anxiety/depression. When appropriate, I incorporate parts work (Internal Family Systems) and EMDR to support deeper healing.

I believe healing happens within safe and meaningful relationships. Each client’s needs are unique, and I place great care on building a trusting therapeutic connection where you feel seen, supported, and accepted. My goal is to offer a space that allows for growth, restoration, and lasting change.

I am an EMDR Certified Therapist, IFS-Informed, and a Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) Practitioner. I also hold a Foundational Certification in Theraplay and have training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).
